Julie Carmen (born
4 April 1954 ) is an American actress who came to some prominence onscreen in the 1980s.She is known as one of the few actresses of Hispanic decent who broke through the barriers in Hollywood, winning the Best Supporting Actress Award at theVenice Film Festival in 1980 for her role inJohn Cassavetes 's "Gloria" oppositeGena Rowlands andBuck Henry . She worked extensively as an actress in Hollywood and Europe, completed YOGA WORKS Teachers' Training and earned her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology.She was the female lead in more than three dozen feature films, mini-series and movies-of-the-week. Carmen starred opposite John Leguizamo in KING OF THE JUNGLE directed by Seth Zvi Rosenfeld. Carmen recently co-starred in Agustin's feature film WONDERWALL, a street epic shot in the Bronx to be released in 2008.
She is perhaps best known for her portrayal of the
Vampire ss "Regine" in "Fright Night II " but also played memorable characters inRobert Redford 's "The Milagro Beanfield War " andJohn Carpenter 's "In the Mouth of Madness ". Recently she has gone on to playAngelina Jolie 's mom in the CBS mini series TRUE WOMEN.Carmen was one of the actresses featured in INVISIBLE WOMEN, a documentary about women over forty who are still working in Hollywood yet have gone on to develop other skills.
