Ian Bayley is a leading UK quiz player, despite his youth when compared with other leading players (he is in his early thirties). He was British Quiz Champion in 2001 and despite never having played on a series-winning team, is widely considered to be one of the best players to have appeared on
University Challenge . He made a widely acclaimed appearance onWho Wants to be a Millionaire as a "phone a friend". In addition, he has represented theUniversity of Oxford in the Intercollegiate Championship Tournament run byNAQT , one of the world's foremost buzzer competitions. His scores compared respectably alongside some of the leading American buzzer quiz players.He is also the 2005 European Pairs Quiz Champion alongside
Pat Gibson and was part of the England side that won the 2004European Quiz Championships .Ian Bayley attended
