Hodges Figgis

Hodges Figgis

Hodges Figgis, Ireland's largest bookshop, is located on Dawson Street, Dublin, Republic of Ireland. It was founded in the 18th century (1768) and is mentioned in passing in James Joyce's novel "Ulysses". (The shop has moved at least three times in the last 100 years, and the premises mentioned in Ulysses are now occupied by Waterstone's, almost directly opposite the present location.)

The store briefly housed a coffee shop on the first floor, but this was removed in 2002 during renovations to allow expansion of the space used for the shelving of stock. It is the largest bookshop in Ireland, stocking approx. 60,000 titles over four floors, specializing in Irish related titles, Fiction, Remainders and Academic titles.Fact|date=February 2007Hodges Figgis also operate the student bookshop in Dublin City University.

For some time in the late 19th and in the 20th century, the company also published a number of books, often on Irish topics.

Both Hodges Figgis and Waterstone's are now part of the HMV group of companies.
