Sensei Drago began his study of
martial arts inNew York City at the Sullivan Street Dojo in1964 , under the supervision of SenseisErnest Ferrara andZenko Heshiki . There, he moved up the ranks, earned his black belt, and felt ready to take his journey a step further. In1967 , himself and his friend,Zenko Heshiki , opened the new Satsuma BushiDojo on West 72nd Street inManhattan, NY .He moved to
Virginia in1971 , and soon opened hisBudo KaiDojo onApril 7 ,1973 inFront Royal, VA . Also known as the "Front Royal Karate Club," it is still in operation today, and Sensei Drago still teaches classes there six days a week.Sensei Drago earned the prestigious 5th Dan (aka 5th degree black belt) from Soke
Takayoshi Nagamine in1991 , received 7th Dan in2001 , and was caught by surprise to receive his 8th Dan from Sensei Ferrara at the USShorin-ryu Doshi Kai in2004 (pictured at right).He is the
