lake in theSouth Island ofNew Zealand , located at coord|44|53|S|168|05|E|type:waterbody_region:NZ.A small lake between
Lake Te Anau andMilford Sound , it lies close to the State Highway 94 (the Milford Sound Road). The small tramping camp of Cascade Creek lies close to the lake's southern end. The west branch of theEglinton River flows through the lake.The lake is within the boundary of the
Fiordland National Park , and is surrounded by native bush. Several smaller lakes lie nearby, includingLake Fergus andLake McKellar . Several mountains stand close to the lake's western shore, notably Melita Peak (1680 m) and Consolation Peak (1760 m). "The Divide", the saddle between the valleys of the Eglinton andHollyford River s, lies four kilometres north of the lake.The lake (and several other nearby locations) were named after
Davy Gunn , a pioneer of the local tramping tourism industry (seeHollyford Track ).
