Brian Wesley Shackelford (born August 30, 1976 in McAlester, Oklahoma) is a Major League baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. He bats and throws left-handed. He made his major league debut for the Cincinnati Reds on June 26, mlby|2005, and had an ERA of 2.30 in that season.

On July 28, mlby|2007, Shackelford was traded by the Reds along with Calvin Medlock to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Jorge Cantu and Shaun Cumberland. On December 12, 2007, Shackelford signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but was released during spring training.

For the by|2008 season, Shackelford signed with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League. After his release on May 22, he signed with the Long Island Ducks on August 8.

Legal problems

Shortly after midnight on the morning of July 6, 2006, Milwaukee police arrested Shackelford at Miller Park, shortly after the end of a game between the Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers. Shackelford had pitched to one batter in the 12th inning, striking out Prince Fielder. Police charged Shackelford with third-degree sexual assault. The Reds sent him to AAA Louisville that afternoon also, and did not indicate if the arrest was part of the cause for the demotion. On July 28, 2007, he was traded with Calvin Medlock to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in a trade for Jorge Cantu and Shaun Cumberland.

According to television station WCPO in Cincinnati, Shackelford agreed to meet a woman, whom he had contacted via Match.com, in a Milwaukee hotel room on Monday, July 3. The woman later claimed that "something improper" happened while the two were together. On July 18, Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Keith Berg released a letter indicating that Shackelford would not face criminal charges in the matter.
