John A. Rae

John A. Rae is an executive with Power Corporation of Montreal, former Liberal Party of Canada fundraiser, long-time advisor to former Prime Minister of Canada Jean Chrétien and brother of Canadian politician Bob Rae.

Rae is a graduate of Queen's University in economics and political science. He is a former Chair of the Board of Trustees of Queen's.

He has served as:

* Executive Assistant to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development
* National Campaign Chairman for the Leadership Campaign of the Right Hon. M. Chrétien
* Representative of the Liberal Party of Canada on the "No" Committee for the Quebec referendum
* Coordinator of the National Campaign of the Liberal Party of Canada

Rae's association with Chrétien dates back to the late 1960s when he served as executive assistant to Chrétien when he was Minister of Indian Affairs [http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_zolf/20060509.html] . He has remained a friend and close advisor to Chrétien since then in both paid and unpaid capacities.

In 2006, he encouraged his brother Bob to seek the leadership of the federal Liberals and was one of the senior architects of his campaign.

His father, Saul Rae, was a leading Canadian diplomat.
