Gerald W. Lynch was the third President of
John Jay College of Criminal Justice , the only institution of higher education in theUnited States dedicated exclusively to the study ofcriminal justice , law enforcement, police science, and public service. He served as president for 28 years, from1976 to2004 .During Lynch’s presidency, John Jay had grown from a small police science college to an internationally recognized center of research, education and training in criminal justice and
public safety . "Human Dignity and the Police," an innovative course to improve relations between police and public, was developed at John Jay under Lynch’s supervision. It is taught throughoutLatin America and theCaribbean , as well as to police from more than 40 countries inAfrica ,Asia andEurope .An internationally known expert and advocate of criminal justice education, Lynch has lectured throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, the former
Soviet Union , theMiddle East , andAustralia . He teaches, chairs panels, writes, and speaks regarding police corruption and ethical behavior, and many other topics related to criminal justice and policing.Lynch graduated from
Fordham Preparatory School and received his B.S. fromFordham University and hisPh.D. inClinical Psychology fromNew York University .
