USS Norfolk

USS Norfolk

Three vessels of the United States Navy, and one incomplete, have been named USS "Norfolk", after the city of Norfolk, Virginia.

* The first "Norfolk" was a brig during the Quasi-War with France.
* The second "Norfolk" (CA-137) was to be a heavy cruiser. The ship was laid down 27 December 1944 at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, but construction was cancelled 12 August 1945.
* The third "Norfolk" (DL-1) was a destroyer leader, the first major warship built by the Navy after World War II, and in service from 1953 to 1970.
* The fourth "Norfolk" (SSN-714) is a "Los Angeles"-class nuclear attack submarine commissioned in 1983 and on active service as of 2007.
