Heim is a village and former municipality in
Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. Originally (from 1837) the municipality was a part ofHemne formannskapsdistrikt , but on1 January 1911 Hemne was divided and Heim became a municipality of its own with 1 533 inhabitants.On
1 January 1964 the district of Vestre Heim ("Western Heim", the area west of theHemnefjord ) with its 711 inhabitants was reunited with Hemne. At the same time the district of Austre Heim ("Eastern Heim") became a part ofSnillfjord municipality.The village Heim is presently located in Hemne.
The name
The parish of Heim was established in 1884. It is named after the old farm Heim (
Norse "Heimr"), since the church is built on its ground. The name is identical with the word "heim r" m 'home, homestead, farm'.
