HMAS Hobart

HMAS Hobart

There have been two ships of the Royal Australian Navy named HMAS "Hobart" after Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania.

*The first "Hobart" was a "Leander" class light cruiser, obtained from the Royal Navy as HMS "Apollo" and renamed.
*The second "Hobart" was a "Perth" class guided missile armed destroyer launched on 9 January 1964.
* The third "Hobart" will be one of the new Aegis-guided Hobart class destroyers, scheduled to enter service around 2013.
