Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry

Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry

The Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army.

It has its origins in the Jammu and Kashmir Militia, which was a paramilitary force under the Home Ministry of India, until the early nineteen-seventies, when it was converted to a full fledged Army regiment under the Ministry of Defence, and renamed as the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry.

The regimental center is in Srinagar's Badami Bagh cantonment.

The last Commander, J&K Militia, was Brigadier Lekhraj Singh Puar, of the Garhwal Rifles.
