Proti Island

Proti (Πρώτη) is a Greek island in the Ionian Islands. It is part of the municipality of Gargalianoi, in the prefecture of Messenia. The 2001 census reported a population of four inhabitants. The Byzantine Emperor Romanos IV was blinded and exiled to this island in 1072 A.D., and died shortly thereafter due to wounds from his severe blinding.
