Adam Wysocki (born
December 27 ,1974 inAugustów ) is a Polish flatwater canoer. A consistent competitor at the highest level since the mid-nineties he has won two world championship gold medals in the K-2 kayak. In 1994 he and teammate
Maciej Freimut won the K-2 200 m, the first time the sprint event had been included in the world championships. In the 1996 Atlanta Olympics they reached the K-2 500 m final, finishing fifth. Wysocki was also a member of Poland's K-4 1000 m team, again narrowly missing out on a medal with fourth place in the final.Since 1998, Wysocki's K-2 partner in the Poland national squad has been Augustów club-mate
Marek Twardowski . They have been regular world and European championship medallists including a world 500 m gold in 1999.Wysocki however has never won an Olympic medal. He recovered from a major operation on his spine to compete at Sydney 2000; he and Twardowski came fifth (500 m) and eighth (1000 m). The Athens games they just missed out again, this time finishing in fourth place in the K-2 500 m.
Despite that disappointment, they bounced back with excellent results in the 2005 season. They were crowned European K-2 200 m champions and went on to win two medals at the 2005 World Championships in
Zagreb - silver in the K-2 1000 m and bronze in the K-2 200 m.At the 2006 World Championships in
Szeged , Hungary, Wysocki won two more silver medals (K2 200 m and K4 1000 m). Wysocki is 186 cm tall (6'1) and weighs 88 kg (194 lbs). He is studying inKraków to become a coach when he retires. Unusually, Wysocki has also won prizes in poetry competitions.External links
