Laura Kipnis (born 1956) is a professor of
media studies atNorthwestern University . She is also a cultural and media critic who focuses especially ongender issues , sexual politics,popular culture , andpornography , and is best known for her contention that adultery sustains rather than undermines marriage Fact|date=April 2008. She began her career as a video artist, exploring similar themes in the form of video essays.She earned a
Bachelor of Fine Arts at theSan Francisco Art Institute and aMaster of Fine Arts fromNova Scotia College of Art and Design . She has received fellowships for her work from theGuggenheim Foundation , theRockefeller Foundation , and theNational Endowment for the Arts .Her works include:
