KHTK is located in the Sacramento, California area and broadcasts at 1140 AM. This Sports/Talk station is the flagship station of the Sacramento Kings and Sacramento Monarchs. KHTK also broadcasts some UC Davis football games. It is also the Sacramento radio home of the Oakland Raiders, "The Mike O'Meara Show" and "The Jim Rome Show". NASCAR and NFL Sunday Night Football are also aired at weekends. KHTK broadcasts at 50,000 watts and can be heard from Redding to Merced. It is the second AM to broadcast HD Radio in the Sacramento area, 1470 AM KIID being the first.

KHTK has been one of America's top rated sports stations for the past 12 years. "The Rise Guys" show, featuring Whitey Gleason, along with "The Phantom" and former MLB player F-P Santangelo, airs weekday mornings. "Sportsline" with Kings play-by-play man Grant Napear and former USC football standout and computer novice Mike Lamb airs 4pm-7pm. Sportsline is followed weeknights by the Jim Kozimor Showgram and then a local caller turned host The Carmichael Dave Show from 9pm and midnight. Weekends features hosts Jim Crandell of KTXL Fox 40; Larry Krueger and Chris Townsend on Saturday evenings; John Dickinson and KTXL Fox 40 weekend sports anchor Mark Demsky on Sunday morning.

KHTK emerged after long-time country giant KRAK switched formats in 1994, due to the declining AM music audience. 1140 AM became the sports station in 1994 with the first show featuring NFL Hall of Famer
Jack Youngblood and co-host Mike Remy, the station's former Program Director.

On July 31, 2008, the CBS Corporation announced that KHTK and its five sister stations in Sacramento were being put up for sale as part of the planned divesture of 50 radio stations outside the top-15 U.S. radio markets.
