"Wilder" was the second album by neo-psychedelic Liverpool band The Teardrop Explodes in which the group's leader Julian Cope expanded his songwriting by incorporating a myriad of new soundscapes to the already eclectic band's sound that, while setting them apart, also lost them many of the fans of the more punkish Kilimanjaro. While the single "Passionate Friend" charted reasonably, the album failed commercially and after several line up changes the group disbanded.

2000 Re-release

In 2000 Cope gave his blessings to re-release the band's two complete albums with a selection of bonus tracks, mainly b-sides from the respective albums singles. The albums featured original artwork, a remastered sound, and full lyrics and essays.
