skate , the only member of the genus "Arhynchobatis", found aroundNew Zealand at depths of from 90 to 1,000 m on thecontinental shelf . Its length is from 30 to 75 cm. The longtail skate is a medium-sized deepwater ray of rounded shape, with only onedorsal fin and a small but distinctcaudal fin . It is similar in shape to theprickly deepsea skate .The upper surfaces are dark brown and are covered in small prickles.
