Exhibition Road is a street in
South Kensington ,London ,England . It is named after theGreat Exhibition of 1851 held in Hyde Park to the north.The road runs between
South Kensington tube station and the location of the exhibition in the park. It is bordered by several major museums including theNatural History Museum (incorporating the formerGeological Museum ), theVictoria and Albert Museum and the Science Museum. The main entrance ofImperial College London is also located here. Further north is theRoyal Geographical Society onPrince's Gate , which leads from Exhibition Road to one of the entrances on the south side of Hyde Park. The modernIsmaili Centre is at the southern end of the road.The Exhibition Road Project
"The Exhibition Road Project" is a plan by the local authority, the
Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea , to improve the street's design to reflect its cultural importance. The scheme also looks at surrounding streets. The general aim is to discourage through traffic and give pedestrians greater priority over any remaining traffic. The project also seeks to improve the artistic and architectural merit of the streetscape of Exhibition Road.
