Ludvig Dmitrievich Faddeev ( _ru. Людвиг Дмитриевич Фаддеев), also Ludwig Dmitriyevich (born on
March 23 ,1934 in Leningrad) is aRussia ntheoretical physicist andmathematician . He is famous for the discovery ofFaddeev-Popov ghost s andFaddeev equations .His work led to the invention ofquantum group s.Faddeev was born in Leningrad to a family of mathematicians. His father, D.K. Faddeev, was a well known algebraist, professor of
Leningrad University and member of theRussian Academy of Sciences . Faddeev went toLeningrad University where he was a student of Olga Ladyzhenskaya andVladimir Fock .Honours and awards
Faddeev is a member of the
Russian Academy of Sciences since 1976,and a number of foreign academies, including US National Academy of Sciences andFrench Academy of Sciences . He received numerous honors includingUSSR State Prize (1971), Dannie Heineman Prize (1975),Dirac Prize (1990),Demidov Prize (2002) and theState Prize of the Russian Federation (1995, 2004). He is a former president of theInternational Mathematical Union (1986 – 1990). He was awarded theShaw Prize in mathematical sciences in2008 .External links
