- Jordán Pond
Jordán Pond ( _cs. Jordán) is a
pond inside cityTábor ,South Bohemian Region , theCzech Republic . Built in1492 it is the oldestdam on area of the Czech Republic.The pond was created by creating earth dam across the "Košínský brook" ("Košínský potok", also known as "Tismenice") with purpose to provide drinking water for town inhabitants. Later, it was used for
aquaculture and in modern era as a place of recreation. Levee of the pond is 18 meters high, the area is 50 ha, it contains around 3 millions of m3 of water, deepest point is 12.5 meters bellow surface."Jordánský brook" ("Jordánský potok") outflows from the pond, with 18 meters high "Jordánský waterfall" ("Jordánský vodopád") just after the levee. In short distance upstream on "Košínský brook", next to hamlet Náchod, lies a smaller dam named "Small Jordán" ("Malý Jordán").
In
1991 a roadbridge has been built over the pond. The bridge is suspended on single pylon of height 77 m. Length of the bridge is 208.5 m, and it stays 10.5 m above water surface. The bridge became new dominant of the city.External links
