Consecration of the House Overture
- Consecration of the House Overture
Consecration of the House Overture, op.124, was the first creation of Ludwig van Beethoven after studying the works of JS Bach and Handel. It was first performed in 1822 for the reopening of Vienna’s Josefstadter Theatre. In actuality, the Consecration of the House Overture is only the second overture written for "The Ruins of Athens". As he was displeased with the original overture, he wrote a new overture for the occasion of the Josefstadter Theatre's reopening, where they would be performing the play.
