website=Anappanthy (Anappanthi) is a small town on the banks of Kundoor Puzha (river) in Ayyankunnu Village, Kannur,
Kerala . The beautiful kundoor puzha and her cool breeze attract people in the evenings.Anappanthy still has the simplicity of a sleepy interior village while having all the amenities of a developed city around. It is well connected with roads and communication facilities including broadband Internet and a multitude of mobile phone service providers. Good health and educational institutions are within a few kilometers away. Angadikadavu, Karikkottakary and Vallithode are the neighboring towns and Iritty is the favorite shopping location and the market place for agricultural products.
The history of Anappanthy dates back to 1940s. The severe food shortage and political turbulences during the 1920s and '30s forced the people of central Kerala (erstwhile Travancore state) to search for agricultural land and political security. Malabar - then part of the state of Madras under the British rule - offered them relative political security as well as vast area of forest land to cultivate. While the land was indeed very fertile the harsh forest conditions turned out hostile to those fortune hunters. Adventurous farmers betted their luck in this new found land. Cholera, fiver and starvation took their tolls. Many people paid the price with their life. Many people gave up the fight and went back. Some survived and stayed on.
The hard work and determination of this mainly Christian population brought development to the town and to the village. Anappanthy served as the hub of activities in those days. Today's Anappanthy Service Cooperative Bank was the first financial institution for the entire Aralam/Ayyankunnu villages. The bank was started in 1940s as a 'Society' with a few members. Today it has grown in to a full-fledged bank with many branches in the area. In 1956 the first first elementary school was started here with a single teacher and approximately 30 students. Today the school is known as Government L P School.
Overall living conditions of the population has considerably improved over the years. Nonetheless, it is a reality that the village economy is still depended on the small scale agriculture. No industry has reached the village yet. The major agricultural products are Rubber, Pepper, Cashew and coconut.
