Incorporated some time after the founding of the province, it had a special statute that combined Castilian and
Navarre se rights. It extends on the east from the riverNervion and theEstuary of Bilbao , to the west, and south to the mountains that form the southern border withCantabria andCastile-Leon .Nowadays the name is most commonly used to refer to the rural part of the historical territory, while the urban area is known as the " Left Bank" ("Margen Izquierda", "Ezkerraldea") of the estuary, together with
Barakaldo , that used to belong to Uribe.Its main river is the
