Abdallah bin Abd al-Rahman was born in 1889, the seventh son of the Amir of the Second Saudi State, Abd al-Rahman bin Faisal. He was prominent in the military campaigns of his elder brother Abd al-Aziz as he laid the foundations of the future state of Saudi Arabia. He was responsible for the capture and destruction of the Ikhwan centre of Ghatghat, during the rebellion of 1929. Abdallah later appeared as a key counsellor of the king, and was prominent as a member of the privy Council and as one of the king's official advisors. In later years he enjoyed the role of influential behind the scenes mediator and respected family elder. Abdallah died in 1977. Many of his sons and grandsons continue to hold high government positions.
