Louis M. Lyons

Louis M. Lyons (1 September 1897 – 11 April 1982) was an American journalist and curator of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism. Lyons wrote articles and columns for the "Boston Globe" starting in the 1920's. He also wrote for the "Christian Science Monitor", and published memoirs and other books. The Louis M. Lyons Award is named after him and "honors displays of conscience and integrity by individuals, groups or institutions in communications."

In 1963 Lyons received the Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award as well as an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Colby College.

The Louis M. Lyons Foundation was formed in 2005 to preserve his TV and radio broadcasts (for WGBH Boston) and also to compile his unpublished memoirs and various articles for publication. In the 1920s he wrote a column for the Globe about conversations with his then-young son (Richard Lyons, who became a reporter for the "Washington Post"). He also had two other sons, a daughter and a step-daughter.
