Harry Christophers is an English conductor, born on
December 26 ,1953 inGoudhurst ,Kent . He attended theKing's School, Canterbury , working as a chorister atCanterbury Cathedral under choirmasterAlan Wicks and playingclarinet in the school orchestra alongsideAndrew Mariner . He became an Academical Clerk atMagdalen College, Oxford , studyingClassics for two years before embarking on a musical career.He then spent 6 years as as Lay Vicar at
Westminster Abbey , and then time as a member of theClerks of Oxenford and 3 years in theBBC Singers . He foundedThe Sixteen during this time, in 1977. As well as conducting The Sixteen he has conducted theEnglish Chamber Orchestra , theBBC Philharmonic , theSt. Louis Symphony and theDeutsche Kammerphilharmonie .
