Sascha Goc

Sascha Goc (born April 14 1979 in Calw, West Germany) is a German ice hockey player currently playing for the Hannover Scorpions of the Deutsche Eishockey League. He played in the National Hockey League for the New Jersey Devils and the Tampa Bay Lightning; he also played in the American Hockey League for the Albany River Rats and the Springfield Falcons. His brother Marcel Goc currently plays for the San Jose Sharks of the NHL. Sascha is a valued penalty killer. He was a member on the Germany hockey team in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan and in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

NHL career

Sascha Goc was drafted 157th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft where he played 13 games without scoring a point and collecting four penalty minutes. He was traded to Tampa Bay and played nine more games without scoring a point. After that he went back to Germany to play for the Mannheim Eagles and currently plays for the Hannover Scorpions, where he scored 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points in 50 games in 2005–06.

Olympics

Playing for the German Olympic hockey team in 1998, Sascha Goc was an alternate team captain and led Germany to the semi-finals, losing to Team U.S. 4–2. He also made a return to the German hockey team in 2002 and led Germany to the quarterfinals, losing to Team Russia 1–0.
