Valley Heights Secondary School (VHSS) is a two-story rural high school located near Langton, Ontario, Canada. Opened in 1971, Valley Heights sits on a property that spans a hundred acres and includes fields, Carolinian forests, rivers and marshy areas. Valley Heights also has a large cross country running course. This rural high school has hosted the Norfolk County High School cross country meet on numerous occasions. In 1998, the school was nearly closed. At one point it was practically official, but thanks to desperate efforts from the staff, students and alumni, the school remained open. Since then, there have been no serious efforts to close the school. In 2000, there were approximately 700 students. However, a catholic school opened in 2001 and offered students newer equipment and more course choices. This factor combined with the obliteration of the thirteenth grade has caused the student population to decrease to 500 and many essential courses are no longer offered due to low enrolment.

Athletics and Clubs

The school team is called the "Bears" or "Voyageurs," the school colors are purple and white and the school logo is the Voyageur Bear. During the 1990s, the Valley Heights Bears won numerous championships in a row for football. During the late eighties and early nineties, the Bears won numerous titles over perpetual rivals, the Simcoe Sabres. Among the sports that Valley Heights has teams for are: American football, hockey, volleyball (junior and senior), basketball (junior and senior), cheerleading, tug-of-war, cross country, track and field, rowing, soccer (football) and wrestling. Each sport is offered for both genders except football (boys only) and cheerleading (although boys are encouraged to join). Alongside American football, Valley Heights has excelled at women's volleyball, men's tug-of-war (8 straight titles in the 90s), cross country and rowing.

Clubs meet regularly after school, various clubs include the Drama Club, various choirs, the automobile club, and the computer club. The computer club in particular has seen a lot of success with several entries in the Ontario Computer Programming competition placing in the Top 3. As well, various different departments offer yearly trips. Every December either the arts department or music department go to New York and every other year the French/Spanish department go to France and Spain, and sometimes Quebec City.
