IIHF World Championship Division III

IIHF World Championship Division III

The IIHF World Championship Division III are an annual sports event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. They are the lowest level of the IIHF World Championships.

The two national teams that finish last in their groups at the Division II are relegated to Division III for next year's World Championships. At the Division III Championship, the two best placed teams are promoted to next year's Division II Championship.

Depending on the number of teams wishing to take part in the championship, some teams may have to take part in an "IIHF World Championship Division III Qualification".

Division III was formed out of the lowest ranked teams of Pool D.

The 2009 IIHF World Championship Division III will be played between April 10 and April 16 2009 in Dunedin, New Zealand.
