Jonas Armstrong was born in Mount Carmel Hospital, Dublin, Ireland on
1 January 1981 , exactly one minute after midnight on New Years Day. He was the first baby born in Ireland that year. Fact|date=March 2008 He was raised inLytham St Annes ,Lancashire ,England . He has two siblings, a brother called Grant, also an actor and a sister, both younger. Jonas was educated atArnold School inBlackpool and was a member of the drama group In Yer Space. It was with this group that he performed at the Edinburgh fringe in theStephen MacDonald play "Not About Heroes " and theArthur Miller classic "A View From The Bridge ".Armstrong graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (
RADA ) in 2003, where he performed in productions including "Twelfth Night ", "The Caucasian Chalk Circle ", "The Crucible " and "Ulysses". Armstrong has aBASSC (The British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat) Certificate in stage combat. Other key skills include period dance and accents.In August 2008, the BBC confirmed that Armstrong would be leaving "Robin Hood" at the end of its third season.
