Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) is a private institute of higher education founded in 1911. SCU is recognized as the premier institution in the Western United States for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Its campus is in Whittier, California

Academics

SCU incorporates the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, the School of Professional Studies, and the University Health Centers.

Accreditation

SCU is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), This accreditation is unequalled by any other CAM institution, offering chiropractic and acupuncture/oriental medicine programs on the West Coast.

The Doctor of Chiropractic degree program of SCU is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE). The Doctor of Chiropractic program is also approved by the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

The Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program of SCU is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and oriental medicine practitioners. The Master's Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM), is also approved by the California Acupuncture Board.

Location

SCU is located in the suburb of Whittier, 20 miles southeast of Los Angeles, and bordering Orange County.

Recognition

The only one of its kind on the west coast, SCU’s dual degree program allows students the opportunity to concurrently complete a Doctor of Chiropractic and Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in a streamlined and accelerated format.

SCU's nationally-recognized Practice of Prosperity program, the nation’s first launched by a CAM university, prepares students for success after graduation with an innovative curriculum that integrates entrepreneurial, leadership, and business content. Through practical coursework combined with the experience and insight of working professionals, students learn how to effectively manage and lead an institution, launch and grow a practice, and collaborate with healthcare professionals across multiple disciplines.
