The Art Newspaper

The Art Newspaper

"The Art Newspaper" (Established in 1983) is a monthly newspaper about the visual arts based in London.

It is published in a newspaper, rather than a magazine, format, in black and (off-)white. It caters particularly for the art professional, and, although it is sold in major outlets, it is not extensively distributed in smaller shops.

Philippe de Montebello, Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, called it "an invaluable source of information about art and the art world. It focuses on personalities as well as issues, but eschews gossip and stresses accuracy embracing an editorial policy that consistently reveals a high degree of seriousness and sense of responsibility." It is published by the Italian publishing house Umberto Allemandi and is actually a network of four "sister" papers. It has offices in London and New York, and correspondents in over 20 countries including Italy, India and Germany.

The General Editorial Director is Anna Somers Cocks and the Managing Director is James Knox. The Editor is Cristina Ruiz.
