- Little Guitars
"Little Guitars" is a song by
Van Halen from their1982 albumDiver Down . The song was a spontaneous idea that guitaristEddie Van Halen came up with during the sessions. The song was inspired by a miniature custom guitar built by Nashville luthier David Petschulat, based upon the
Gibson Les Paul guitar. The much photographed faded-cherry sunburst "little guitar", or "less paul"" as Petschulat referred to it, was purchased by Eddie while Van Halen was on tour and passing through Nashville, and a second similar guitar with a solid cherry-wine finish was contracted for later delivery. The song was recorded live with the first instrument, and both guitars were used for subsequent appearances. (According to then wifeValerie Bertinelli , the little guitars followed Eddie from tour bus, to hotel room, studio, etc.)The lyrics of the song "Little Guitars" were inspired by the acoustic introduction and singer
David Lee Roth felt that it had a Mexican flavour, so he dedicated the song to "Senorita". [http://www.classicvanhalen.com/albums_dd.shtml]
