Public Discourse

Public Discourse is a non-fiction film by Brad Downey, Quenell Jones, and Tim Hansberry. Its primary focus is on graffiti and street art in New York City.

The film examines the painting of street signs, advertising manipulation, metal welding, and posturing and guerrilla art, all performed illegally. Shot in the classic cinema verité style using compact mini-DV and video 8 cameras, it features many artists such as Ellen Harvey, Bob Dombrowski, Obey Giant, Leon Reid IV a.k.a. Darius Jones, Swoon, Nato, Desa, JJ Veronis. It has an original score by Japanther a Brooklyn based noise band. The package design was done by Eric Adorn from Supreme skateboard shop. It has been exhibited in over 70 venues and festivals including the ICA London, Brooklyn Underground Film Festival, Copenhagen International Film Festival, and the Pioneer Theatre among others. It is distributed by Video Data Bank based in Chicago.
