Upper Sturt Country Fire Service was started by a breakaway group of volunteers, who borrowed an appliance from Stirling Country Fire Service to start their own brigade. The brigade now gets over 50 call outs a year, many of which are vehicle accidents on the dangerous Upper Sturt Road.
