Tony Grimaud

Tony Grimaud

Tony Grimaud (born February 25, 1960) is a Maltese-born singer-songwriter.

Grimaud was born in Sliema, Malta and is said to have been a stubborn child. In his early years, he took part in many national and international art competitions and won several first prizes. He discovered the guitar and songwriting at sixteen when introduced to the music of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Donovan and the like.

In the early 80's, in Malta, Grimaud delivered his "Songs For A New Generation" to packed audiences, armed only with just his unalloyed voice, percussive acoustic guitar and harmonicas.

At 26, Grimaud moved to London, England, to further his career. Music critics described Grimaud as eccentric and uncompromising, with an abiding taste for surprise. He specialises in making music an intimate personal experience. But his songs have deceptive surfaces - one can never trust a simple song if it comes from Grimaud, there is always another side to it! He currently lives in Malta, where he is known for his passion for interactive media art, which is one of his academic research interests. In 1996, Grimaud developed and published the first educational computer games in the Maltese language.

Grimaud holds a Masters Degree in Literacy and Language in Education and currently works with children with severe mental and physical disabilities. He divides the rest of his time between his children and music.
