"Welcome to Camp Nightmare" is the 9th book in R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series.
Plot
The protagonist, Billy Zafferini, is off to his first summer camp. What seemed like a normal camp starts to become more sinister. The camp director Uncle Al, is a little weird, Billy's fellow campers Mike, Roger, Jay, Colin, Tommy, Chris, and a counselor Frank vanish. The counselors Larry, Derek, Kurt, and the others don't seem to notice, and there are rumors of a monster called Sabre living in the forest. Just as Billy is about to turn the tables and defeat the counselors, he learns that the camp was a "training facility" where he was being tested so that he can join his parents on a journey to Earth.
This novel was adapted into an episode for the TV series, which was shot at least partially at Camp Samac in Oshawa, Ontario.
The plot has similarities with the short story "Youth" written by Isaac Asimov.

TV adaption
This Goosebumps book was made into an episode for the Goosebumps television series. In the novel the camp counselors are pleasant, but in the TV version, the counselors are militant and have little to no regard for the campers' safety (until the end when it's revealed that the camp is a training center and all the scenarios were tests to see if the campers could survive the extremly dangerous situations that may befall them on their mission to Earth). The characters of Tommy and Chris are absent in the television episode and are replaced by George and Martha. In the novel the character of Roger stays in the same cabin as Billy, Mike, Colin, and Jay.
Welcome to Camp Slither
This is an upcoming book in the goosebumps horrorland series. It will probably be loosely based on Welcome to Camp Nightmare.
