Victor Zammit

Victor James Zammit is an Australian writer and researcher into the paranormal. Formerly a lawyer of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and of the High Court of Australia, he is the author of "A Lawyer Presents The Case For The Afterlife". [ [http://www.victorzammit.com/book/4thedition/index.html "A Lawyer Presents The Case For The Afterlife"] ] His website presents an analysis of at least eleven different areas of proposed evidence for the afterlife, including mediumship, near-death experiences and reincarnation. It also contains a number of articles which purport to rebut arguments by certain skeptics against the existence of an afterlife. The website also has links to current research and conferences on the topic.

$1 million challenge

Victor organized sponsors to offer one million dollars to anyone who could rebut the existing empirical evidence for the afterlife. Conditions of the challenge were changed on 6th November 2006. [ [http://www.victorzammit.com/skeptics/challenge.html Challenge] "Victor Zammit.com"]

Zammit's challenge does not require a demonstration of a clearly defined paranormal ability in an unambiguous testing situation mutually agreed to, but rather convincing a committee of "people expert in afterlife evidence" to agree that their claimed evidence has been rebutted "beyond any doubt". Critics (e.g. James Randi, Richard Dawkins, Australian Skeptics "et al") have opined that this challenge is absurd as it requires the antagonist(s) to prove a negative. In sum, Zammit is accused of holding that his position must be true because it has not been proven false.
