Robert Lugar (
1773 -June 23 ,1855 ), was an Englisharchitect and engineer during theIndustrial Revolution .Although born in
Colchester ,England , Lugar carried out much of his most important work inScotland andWales , where he was employed by several leading industrialists to design grand houses such as Balloch Castle (1808) andCyfarthfa Castle (1824).Denham Mount Early C19 rustic villa. Built to the designs of Robert Lugar (1773-1855) andcompleted before 1823 (Colvin). Colourwashed stucco; hipped Welsh slateroof, eaves cornice with paired brackets. Entrance front, central polygonalbay. First floor with French window on to cast iron balcony on paired brackets.Cornice to roof of bay slightly higher than rest, with panelled frieze andband. Left-hand bay pedimented and with ground floor casement with consolesand cornice; right-hand bay a mid-C19 polygonal projection with first floorcast iron balcony on brackets. Left-hand return has ground floor open verandawith wood lath-faced columns. Ground floor French windows; first floor casements.On left, a bow window with 3 curved windows, frames, and glazing barswith chamfered corners. South front continuation of verandah; central 2 storeywindow bay with pediment ground floor, additional splayed bay. Mid C19 wingof 3 storeys masked on ground floor by conservatory. On roof, open timber bellturret with weathercock. Interior, good early C19 detail including cast ironrailing to stairs.TQ
