Harry Shapland Colt (
August 4 ,1869 -November 21 ,1951 ) was agolf course architect born in East Hendred,Berkshire ,England . He worked predominantly with Charles Alison, John Morrison, andAlister MacKenzie , in 1928 formingColt, Alison & Morrison Ltd . He participated in the design of over 300 golf courses (115 on his own) inNorth America ,South America ,Europe ,Australia ,Asia , andAfrica . Colt courses of note in the UK includeStoke Poges ,Calcot Park and the East & West Courses atWentworth Club . While it is often joked that "the sun never sets" on a course designed by architectRobert Trent Jones , this is actually true for the works of Colt and his collaborators.Colt took a
law degree atClare College ,Cambridge and captained theCambridge University golf team in 1890.In 1897 he became a Founder Member of the Royal & Ancient Rules of Golf Committee.
