MS Liberty of the Seas

MS "Liberty of the Seas" is a Royal Caribbean cruise ship of the Freedom class which entered regular service in May 2007. It was initially announced that she would be called Endeavour of the Seas, however this name was later substituted [ [http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/RCI_2.html Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Postcards - Page 2 ] ] . The 15-deck ship accommodates 4,370 passengers served by 1,360 crew. She was built in 18 months at the Aker Finnyards drydock in Turku, Finland, where her sister ship, "Freedom of the Seas", was also built. At GRT|154,407|first=yes, she joins her sister ship, "Freedom of the Seas", as the largest cruise ships and passenger vessels ever built. On April 22, 2007 she made her first port of call Southampton, on a promotional visit. "Liberty of the Seas" is the second of the Freedom Class vessels. A third ship, "Independence of the Seas", was delivered in April 2008. In 2009, the first in a new Oasis Class of ships measuring 220,000 gross tons is slated to displace the Freedom class as the world's largest passenger ships.

On one of its first voyages, "Liberty of the Seas" was struck with the highly contagious norovirus, or "Norwalk virus", after a passenger brought the virus on board.Fact|date=August 2008

All rooms on board the "Liberty of the Seas" feature a private bathroom, multiple configuration beds, closets, a flat-screen television, 250-count bedsheets, and a telephone for shipboard use.

Promenade staterooms are interior cabins with a view of the Royal Promenade shopping arcade. Privacy is limited unless curtains are drawn, as windows face other rooms across the arcade and, for lower levels, may be visible by guests strolling the Royal Promenade.

Amenities

"Liberty of the Seas" features extensive sports facilities including the FlowRider onboard wave generator for surfing, an interactive water park, a full-sized volleyball / basketball court, an ice skating rink, a boxing ring, and a large fitness center.

Other amenities include two whirlpools that extend out over the sea, Wi-Fi capabilities throughout the ship, a modular conference center for business meetings, flat screen televisions in all staterooms, and full cell phone connectivity.

Restaurants include a three-level formal dining room, Jade Cafe Asian-themed casual dining, Windstar Cafe traditional casual dining, Sorrento's Pizzeria, Promenade Cafe, Ben & Jerry's Ice cream shop (fee applies), Johnny Rocket's diner (fee applies), Chop's Steakhouse (fee applies), and Portofino Italian restaurant (fee applies).

"Liberty of the Seas" currently sails alternating seven-night Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean itineraries from her departure port of Miami, Florida.
