Gurwitch grew up in
Florida graduating fromMiami Beach High School in 1980. While there, she took acting classes with famed South Florida drama teacherJay W. Jensen . After high school, she enrolled atNew York University .Career
Gurwitch is currently a contributing writer for NPR's "
Day to Day ", "Los Angeles Times Magazine" and the website Freshyarn.com. In the past, she has written for "Child", "Glamour", "Cooking Light", "Premiere" and "Los Angeles Magazine". She wrote an article entitled "Getting in Touch With Your Inner Bimbo" in "Los Angeles Magazine".Gurwitch once worked for
Woody Allen , but was fired during an encounter in which he informed her that she looked "retarded" among other insults. In 1996, TBS premiered a new show called "
Dinner and a Movie ." Gurwitch andPaul Gilmartin were signed by TBS executives to be the hostess and host of the new cooking and entertainment show.Claud Mann was hired to be thechef of the series and prepare various themed dinner dishes. Film projects
In 2007, Gurwitch wrote, produced, directed, and appeared in the documentary film "Fired!"A 2007 documentary film by Annabelle Gurwitch, imdb title|id=0816238|title=Fired!] This film documents the experiences of twenty-five persons, including Gurwitch, who got fired from various jobs. The fired ones recount their firings in the forms of: interviews with Gurwitch, staged skits, stand up comedy routines, and filmed excerpts from the stage play of the same title Gurwitch previously produced.
