Exerlopers

Exerlopers

Exerlopers are an unusual-looking exercise boot equipped with a half-moon-shaped spring attached to the sole. The boots were invented by Montreal's Gregory Lekhtman in 1985, and offer wearers the ability to run on hard surfaces with little impact on knees and other joints. Users run in a bounding, loping, style which proponents consider a mobile alternative to other low-impact aerobic exercises, such as stair-climbing and the mini-trampoline. Lekhtman has constantly tinkered with the Exerlopers and the newest incarnation takes the form of a lace-up shell made of a durable plastic moulding.

Exerlopers have had at least one celebrity proponent. Lekhtman's then-girlfriend Kim Campbell, Prime Minister of Canada in 1993, frequently exercised in the Exerlopers during her time as Prime Minister.
