Punk dance

Punk dance is the variety of dance popular among fans of punk rock and related styles.

Commonly performed at punk shows, these dances often appear chaotic, or even violent, though they are often not with violent intent Fact|date=August 2007, but rather for fun. The punk subculture and its immediate predecessors originated many of these dance styles from the 1970s onward. Unlike hip hop dance and breakdancing, punk dances are intended to be performed in dense crowds.Moshing and the pogo are the types of dance most closely associated with punk. Stage diving and crowd surfing were originally associated with protopunk bands such as the Stooges, but went on to find a place at punk shows, and later metal shows and rock concerts. Skanking, a dance style originating in Jamaica's ska and reggae scene, is commonly performed at punk shows Fact|date=August 2007, especially if the band also plays ska. The contemporary dances of metalheads borrow much from punk dance.
