Jamie Neil Macoun (born
August 17 , 1961 in Newmarket,Ontario ) is a retiredprofessional ice hockey defenceman who played parts of seventeen seasons in theNational Hockey League .A graduate of
Newmarket High School , Macoun played his minor hockey in the Newmarket Minor Hockey Association on various Rep. squads, winning both multiple Ontario 'AA' Championships and the prestigious International Silver Stick Tournament. He then entered the Junior ranks for three seasons with his home town Newmarket Flyers, (Central Junior B), including a short stint with their neighboring rivals, TheAurora Tigers .After nearly three years playing for the
Buckeyes atOhio State , Macoun was signed as an undraftedfree agent by theCalgary Flames onJanuary 30 , 1983. He was named to the 1984NHL All-Rookie Team . In 1991 he was involved in a large trade that sent him to TheToronto Maple Leafs withDoug Gilmour . In 1998 he was traded to TheDetroit Red Wings .Macoun played 1128 career NHL games, scoring 76 goals and 282 assists for 358 points, as well as compiling 1208 career penalty minutes. He was a
