Jinkō Shōjo 2

is a 3D erotic life simulation game developed by Illusion for the PC. The player assumes the role of a young male on an island, populated with a number of idyllic locations typical to the genre (such as the beach, a hot spring, a school, a lab/office, a train car, and a castle's church and dungeon.) Accompanying the player is a cute girl, who provides a number of different social and increasingly erotic actions for the player.

At the beginning of the game, the player may customize the girl's different attributes, such as her hair color, hair style, breast size, skin color, and blood type (this has the added function of selecting her personality, based on the popular Japanese pseudoscience). Unless third-party modifications are used, the girl will still more or less look the same underneath the hair and minor modifications, a problem foreseen by most gamers to plague many other games of this genre that attempt this type of customization. This (along with other concerns, see below) has led to a lot of the aforementioned "modding" to this game, both inside and outside of Japan.

The object of "Jinkō Shōjo 2" is to figure out how to satisfy the girl, based on conversation and reactions to chosen actions. If the player succeeds in making her happy, the game rewards the player (such as with new outfits for her to wear). While not a true dating sim (as they typically have more than one girl to choose from, among other things), the mechanics of the social and erotic interactions borrow heavily from such games. However, other than the setup, the game contains no real plot or backstory. Due to the non-linear nature of the game and the few goals (other than figuring out what the girl likes and how to successfully perform various actions with her) the game is felt by some gamers to be rather pointless and lacking in depth. Still, other gamers find value in the many modifications (as mentioned previously) and fansites associated with the game.

Unlike other games and products developed by Illusion, "Jinkō Shōjo 2" contains no violence, rape, or humiliation overtones.

Illusion's policy states that the game is not intended to be sold or used outside of Japan, and official support is only provided in Japanese and for users in Japan. While the game itself is in Japanese, a fan created English patch is available that converts most (but not all, as of May 2006) of the written Japanese into English. Spoken text in the game is still in Japanese.

Game play

The game play interface of "Jinkō Shōjo 2" is very straightforward and simple. The player controlled male character starts off in the sea off of the beach, and must swim ashore, where he is greeted by the girl. From there, the player is free to interact as he wishes with the girl. A user set key will call the girl to the player, and she will follow the player until the key is pressed again, allowing the player to lead her to any part of the map he wishes. If left alone, the girl will sometimes initiate games of tag and hide and go seek with the player. She will also perform routine acts such as cooking, sleeping, and showering. Some elements of the environment can be interacted with, such as chairs and sofas.

To initiate an H-scene, the player simply has to press the key for hugging/kissing the girl while next to her. Interestingly, there are different positions available depending on whether the girl is facing towards or away from the guy, and on the location. If the girl is facing towards the guy, the H-scene typically involves the standard position of the guy on top. If the girl is facing away from the player when the scene is initiated, the position is typically doggy style with the girl either on hands and knees or leaning against a nearby object. If there are any objects nearby, such as beds, trees, walls, tables, or even the altar in the dungeon, then the H-scene takes place on or against that object with several new positions available.

Each position involves several subpositions for the girl, including the starting position, an aroused position, and an exhausted position. If the player has been interacting with her constantly and pleasing her, then the girl may also initiate several bonus positions. The goal of the player is to bring both himself and the girl to climax by first removing the girls clothes and then interacting with various sensitive areas on her body. After the H-scene, the girl will always go take a shower/bath to clean herself. If the player succeeds in pleasing the girl in the H-scene, her love meter increases, and she is more likely to act friendly and initiate bonus positions.

Third party modifications and patches

Since "Jinkō Shōjo 2" has gained so much popularity among the adult gaming community, many unofficial mods and patches have been made for it. The typical patches include patches that convert the Japanese text into English, that enable alt-tabbing in and out of the game, that unlock all the girl's costumes, that fill the girl's love meter, and that disables her showering after every H-scene.

The true qualities of the game come through once mods are used. The majority of these fan made mods affect the appearance of both the girl and her clothing. Some mods edit the girl's physical features, changing her skin color, height, slimness, and even shape, color, and size of her eyes, lips, and private areas. The other mods mainly create new costumes for the girl to wear. These can range anywhere from real-life based outfits to outfits from famous anime, manga, and games.
