Green Bloggers

Green Bloggers

Green Bloggers is a group of bloggers who share certain green and environmental values. It was created in September 2005 by Craig Cantin. Members of the Green Bloggers group maintain their own blogs, content from which is aggregated on both the main Green Bloggers website and on various nation-specific sections.

Canadian Origins

Green Bloggers started out as a small group of supporters of the Green Party of Canada. During the 2006 federal election, a number of Green Party candidates used Green Bloggers to promote their candidacies. Within the Canadian political scene, Green Bloggers is now a source of political information alongside the four major political blogging groups - Progressive Bloggers, Blogging Tories, Liblogs, and Blogging Dippers. A number of Green Bloggers are also Progressive Bloggers, because Progressive Bloggers are not affiliated with any single political group.

International Expansion

Since the election, Green Bloggers has grown to include bloggers from other nations, including America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Some of the bloggers include Green Party candidates who have been elected in their constituencies. The scope of Green Bloggers has also been broadened to include non-political environmentalists.

Joining the Green Bloggers

Green Bloggers includes over 150 members in more than a dozen different countries. Membership is free, and open to all bloggers who supports green or environmental values. Canadian Green Party Leader Elizabeth May is one of the more recognizable members, but there are several UK local council members as well.

The primary language on Green Bloggers is English, though there are some French and Spanish-speaking members.
