Galactic Confederacy

Galactic Confederacy

In Scientology doctrine, The Galactic Confederacy refers to an extraterrestrial political unit involving our solar system. [Hubbard, "Dianetics and Scientology Technical Dictionary", First edition, 1975, pg.173] According to L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, this and other star systems were formerly ruled by an alien tyrant named Xenu. This is part of what Hubbard described as "space opera": real incidents that occurred in past lives.

Although mentioned in a number of publicly available L. Ron Hubbard books and recorded lectures, The Galactic Confederacy's complete history is not revealed to Scientologists until they reach the level of OT III. Upon achieving this level, they are informed that Xenu's Galactic Confederacy ruled a broad swath of the galaxy, and lasted for "eighty trillion years". [Hubbard, SHSBC 297, "The ITSA Line"]

Culture and technology

According to Hubbard, 75 million years ago, the Galactic Confederacy comprised 26 stars and 76 planets, including Earth (then called Teegeeack).

As Hubbard tells it, Earth's inhabitants "were walking around in clothes which looked very remarkably like the clothes they wear this very minute. And the cars they drove looked exactly the same and the trains they ran looked the same and the boats they had looked the same. Circa 1950, 1960." [Hubbard, "Assists", Class VIII Course, October 3, 1968] Modern civilization is claimed by Hubbard to have closely resembled that of the Galactic Confederacy 75 million years ago because of an unconscious re-enactment of Xenu’s "R6 implants".

Also, according to Hubbard, the Galactic Confederacy's technology included space planes. Hubbard claimed "the DC-8 airplane is the exact copy of the space plane of that day." Influence

The Church of Scientology models itself on aspects of the Galactic Confederacy.Fact|date=February 2008 The Sea Org, an elite group within the Church, has a laurel wreath logo said by Hubbard to be based on the symbol of the "Loyal Officers", an anti-Xenu faction within the Galactic Confederacy. Each of the leaves on the laurel wreath is said to represent one of the Galactic Confederacy's stars. According to the "Dianetics and Scientology Technical Dictionary", "the Sea Org symbol, adopted and used as the symbol of a Galactic Confederacy far back in the history of this sector, derives much of its power and authority from that association."

The Church of Scientology's own organizational structure is said to be based on that of the Galactic Confederacy: the Church's "org board" is "a refined board of an old galactic civilization. We applied Scientology to it and found why it eventually failed. It lacked a couple of departments and that was enough to mess it all up. They lasted 80 trillion [years] ." ["Org Board and Livingness" ]

Controversy

After the Xenu/Galactic Confederacy story became fully revealed to the public in a court document called the Fishman Affidavit, the Church has sought to keep their information confidential by claiming the OT III material to be a violation of their copyrighted trade secret.

In the ensuing controversy, the Church has objected to Scientology being painted as a science fiction fantasy.
