History

Tascosa High School, opening its doors in 1958, began a spirit of sports enthusiasm by winning a city championship that first year. Since then, a continuing heritage of excellence and tradition have surrounded the red and black rebel. Early school symbols were centered around the Old South, but were eventually replaced by a western image; mascot, General Reb, was replaced by the "Rebel Kid," and the Confederate flag by their Rebel flag. The cannon, donated to the school exactly 100 years after Texas entered the Civil War, stands in the school commons, a silent symbol of the school's rich heritage.

Academics

Tascosa High School is reputed to have high academic standards. Most but not all students are above local averages in academics. The school offers Advanced Placement classes, Dual-Credit courses and various other forms of extended educational applications.

Clubs & Organizations

Tascosa High School offers many diverse activities, in foreign languages, fine arts, community services, and athletics, including Student Council, Spanish Club, Latin Club, German Club, French Club, Newspaper, Yearbook, Band, orchestra, choir, Key Club, Chess Club, National Honor Society, Science Club, football, baseball, swimming, golf, wrestling, and other curricular and extracurricular activities.

Hell Week

Hell week, also referred to as "Spirit Week" is the week in which Tascosa plays Amarillo High School in a severe football rivalry. During Hell Week, many vandalisms occur such as egging, spraypainting, toilet papering, keying, and other property defacing acts. However, many steps are taken each year to attempt to make Hell Week less violent, such as increased police presence. Both schools also discourage violence during announcements.
